Welcome to 2012matters
So what's it all about?
Blindly following the line taken by politicians and their 'experts' is all too easy to do. We look to them for answers and all too often assume that they must know what's right without really ever looking to see for ourselves. But for many reasons, they're often wrong. Sometimes it's out of ignorance or because they were given incorrect information on which to act. Often there are political gains to be made and in order to achieve those gains they will deceive, but whatever the reason, we have to question what they do. That's democracy.
The cost of not questioning...
The western world currently spends billions on policing the world. The cost of going to war with Iraq and of maintaining a presence there is huge, and we did it because the 'experts' said they had an arsenal of 'weapons of mass destruction', well as it turned out, they didn't. People died and billions were spent because we followed the politicians and their 'experts'. Did the politicians deceive us or were they deceived? I believe the same is happening now with regard global warming. We're being deceived by our politicians. Global warming is real, the cause is not settled, not by a long way. Are the politicians being deceived too? There are activists across the globe who would go to great lengths to gain the ear of mainstream politicians, areas of the science community would do the same, the political clout and research funding that this position brings is a great lure. Once again we're spending billions, money taken from the public purse is being used to find ways to combat the effects of rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere. People are getting rich and growing in power on the back of this effort.
We're all very aware these days of the hype surrounding global warming. It holds many implications both for the way we go about our lives today and in the way we will carry on living in the years to come. Some of these things are clearly of natural origin, the vast majority however, are the product of mankind and our every ready willingness to believe in something terrible and catastrophic. What concerns me most in all of this is not what people believe or disbelieve, but the things that are imposed upon us by governments and legislators, by profiteering corporations and the 'do gooders' of the world. All in the name of global warming.
Have we really polluted the atmosphere of our planet to such a degree that we are now facing an unprecedented crisis? Or is there perhaps something else, something equally valid and plausible that could explain why the earth is changing the way it is?
I'm not trying to excuse the damage and pollution caused by mankind (I make no apology for using the term 'mankind', it's not meant to be in anyway sexist), I'm not denying that global warming exists, I'm just not convinced that we're looking in the right direction for the cause of it.
We need to make changes, to pollute less, to be more energy efficient, even to recycle and make vast reductions in the waste we generate. but to do it in the belief that we can halt or even slow global warming, is foolhardy.
As the content of the site grows and arguments are presented in support of a theory or fact, I will endeavour to provide a counter argument so that readers can make up their own minds as to what they believe, based on solid research supported by facts.
I hope to have the forum up and running very soon to enable readers to have their say. Please feel free to use it
I may be wrong, in fact everything written on this site could be wrong. You decide.
An Introduction to global warming...
Below you'll find links to items of news from the press and other media, the vast majority of which are alarmist in nature and support the view that climate change is man made. This is a reflection of the current political, carbon obsessed climate, I include them only in order that the visitors to this site can see what is currently happening with regard climate change. They are not my views.
